Nicosia. The magnificent 67 metre-high tower, designed by Jean Nouvel contains 10 floors of residential apartments, offices and retail areas. A kind of natural sun screen, with a variety of Cyprus plants providing shade during the summer and attracting the light in winter.
Interplays of light and shade
Against the horizontal lines of the mote and the medieval walls surrounding the oldest part of the town, the iconic tower soars vertically. Its bulk is lightened by its many openings, pixelated spaces, shaped windows.
The view over the city’s skyline
The incandescent white of the kitchen pervades the interior. The placing of the handles dialogues with that of the openings in the exterior of the tower which it overlooks. The interior is brightened by the daylight.
